First swim

Yay..... finally it's sunny enough for us to swim. We joined in with Room 18 & swam for the first time this summer. It was so much fun, we're so lucky to still have a school pool.

Resthome visit

We really enjoyed singing on Tuesday to the lovely folks at the Redwoodtown Retirement Village. We sung them Christmas carols then gave them Christmas bookmarks we had made. We know they loved our visit as they gave us the biggest clap at the end.

Waikawa Marae

We had the best experience at Waikawa Marae yesterday. The tangata whenua (hosts) were so welcoming and taught us a lot! We were taught by not only the Marae hosts but also some students from Queen Charlotte College. We took part in learning all about the carvings in the wharenui, how to weave with flax, we learnt and sung a Haka and we learnt a song to use rakau sticks too. We saw the kowhaiwhai patterns we had been learning about and creating at school and experienced a hongi. It was a day full of new experiences and fun!

Athletics

Friday was our first time competing in the school's athletics day. It was great to finally use the skills we had been learning and put them into practice. We competed in high jump, long jump, quoits, shotput, and sprints. It was a fantastic day outside the classroom!

Measuring with hands!

We used our hands to measure areas of the classroom! It was fun and noisy!

Measuring time!

We used cubes to measure classroom objects. First we had to estimate and then check to get an actual measurement.

How long is one metre....we think we know now!

Today we used our new measurement knowledge to look around the school for things we estimated would measure a metre. We then used the metre rulers to see if we were right. Look at all the things we found that measured exactly 1 metre in our school environment.
