Popcorn making! Writing Instructions

Here are some recent photos of our popcorn making morning.
We got to eat the popcorn  for morning tea , after we wrote the instructions together.

Room 19 smelt yummy all day!
The popcorn has started! It is beginning to rise up the middle of the machine!

The flap opens up and the popcorn shoots out into the bowl. Mmmmmm!
After we made the popcorn, we wrote these instructions together.
(Sorry - I can't rotate the photo!)

Jam Sandwiches! Writing Instructions

We have been learning to write instructions for writing.

We started by reading instructions to make a paper plane, and talked about what instructions were and what they looked like. Then we made popcorn and worked collaboratively to make one set of instructions for making popcorn.

This week, we had some fun making JAM SANDWICHES and writing each step down on our planning sheet as we went. By the end, we had some super instructions, and a bonus JAM SANDWICH, which we ATE!!

What you need to make a jam sandwich!

We are spreading the butter on our bread, then
writing this down.

Instructions finished, into those sandwiches!

We enjoyed this, Miss Z said she had never seen us
write so fast, perhaps it was so we could eat!

Pumpkin Research

We worked hard with a buddy this week, to write a question, research an answer and then publish it. We could publish it any way we liked, and we came up with some creative and original ideas. These photos show us working together to present our work to the class.

YAY.... We won rugger

Today at assembly Room 19 found out we were the winners of Mr Holmes Rugger award.
We won this because we were the top singers this week with Mr Holmes.
Keep up the awesome singing Room 19, you rock!

Pumpkin art

So we are enjoying our wee mini pumpkin unit so much. Today we presented the answers to all of our pumpkin questions. In groups we researched each question then decided how we would  present our answers. It was amazing to see and hear all the different facts and creative ways each group presented their findings. We also started to dye our pumpkin sketches. They are coming along really well & we hope to have them finished next week.

A big surprise we did get today in class was 1/2 of a colossal pumpkin from one of Mrs Robertson's friends. Check out Logan and Oliver holding it!

Tuesdays Fundamentals Player of the Day!

Well done to Ruby Holmes for being such a super team member today at the stadium. When someone hurt their finger in the door,  she decided to wait and hold the door open while her whole team went through. Ka pai Ruby, what a star!

Emily and Tracey visit Room 19!

We had lots of fun this morning with two librarians from the Marlborough District Library. Tracey and Emily read us books, talked about the library and then we got to act out the three little pigs! We think we will catch the Mitre 10 bus when the library is finished and visit them soon!

Pumpkins

Today we started looking at the different pumpkins that Mrs Robertson & Ms Zydenbos had brought into class by looking at their differences and similarities. We then practiced sketching them. We hope next week to have more to sketch so we can create a stunning pumpkin picture using them.
Please check in your child's reading folder for the note about needing more pumpkins.

Roald Dahl Readers!

Wow! Look at all these amazing children reading Roald Dahl books! We have at  least 30  books in our library,  which we are enjoying. Many thanks to the Clarke, Keown and Stewart families for lending us these books.
